Following the Biden administration's military exit from Afghanistan, the administration began a large-scale evacuation effort of SIV applicants and at-risk Afghans. SIVs were intended to be a priority, but many of those evacuated did not have strong ties to American forces in Afghanistan. The situation was further complicated by lax vetting procedures, and the instances of complicity in which Afghans employed by the U.S. have been discovered to have links and loyalties to the Taliban.
