On H-1B, Trump Needs to Pay More Attention to the Voters than to the Swamp

I am still receiving a flood of emails over President Trump's tweet on H-1B.

So what does this mean?

This tweet is a kick in the teeth to the H-1B-replaced American workers who campaigned with Trump at his rallies.

To begin with, the tweet is nonsensical. H-1B guestworkers already have a path to citizenship — which is a large part of the problem with the program. This has led to much speculation.

The Indian press even credits a local actor for Trump's tweet.

I concur with Lou Dobbs that this represents yet another Trump staffing failure. All the outward signs are that Trump is still supporting American workers. However, I doubt that Donald Trump knows the intricacies of the immigration system. For that he has to rely on his staff. Clearly someone with access is telling the president that the H-1B abomination is a good thing.

President Trump needs to listen to Lou Dobbs and fire these people. The purpose of the H-1B program is to replace Americans with cheap, foreign workers. If the president has staff members put lobbyist-speak sugar coating on the H-1B mess, he needs to send them packing.

But that's not what we are seeing.

Trump's staff arranges meetings with business groups to push for more cheap, foreign labor. But President Trump has yet to meet with American workers on immigration policy.

Trump needs to pay more attention to the people who got him elected and less attention to the swamp.
