Colin Farnsworth

Chief FOIA Counsel

Colin Farnsworth serves as Chief FOIA Counsel for the Center for Immigration Studies. He’s responsible for directing the Center’s FOIA operations to assure the Center – and the public – quickly obtain the records they’re legally entitled to.

Mr. Farnsworth has extensive experience at each phase of the FOIA process, from effectively generating FOIA requests and navigating administrative procedures to litigating the government’s FOIA violations. Prior to working for CIS, Mr. Farnsworth helped manage the FOIA division at a prominent national law firm focused on obtaining public interest records for journalists and media organizations. He’s licensed to practice law in the state of Oregon as well as in the U.S. District Court for the District of Columbia.

Mr. Farnsworth holds a J.D. from the University of Oregon School of Law, and a B.A. in political science and education from Prescott College in Arizona. Before going to law school, Mr. Farnsworth worked eight years in Oregon's public schools as a certified social studies teacher.
