Obama's de Facto Amnesty Shows He's No Solomon

By James R. Edwards, Jr. on September 24, 2012

Obama's Homeland Security cronies are proving that there's no King Solomon in this administration. The latest "split the baby" decision connected with the end-run amnesty for DREAMers is leaving the rule of law "baby" dead on the administration's trash heap.

Remember how Solomon saved a baby's life through his wise handling of a dispute over the child? (If not, read I Kings 3:16-28 for details.) In stark contrast with Solomonic wisdom, the Obama administration's court jesters are effectively telling applicants for amnesty-related work permits under the recent so-called Deferred Action for Childhood Arrivals (DACA) scheme to lie about it if they've committed Social Security fraud.

The DACA application and work permit application forms ask for amnesty seekers' Social Security number, if any. Some of the illegal aliens were being fairly truthful about their having used someone else's SSN, either stolen, made up or borrowed — in clear violation of the laws designed to safeguard against ID theft and ID fraud, which has grown rampant — unsurprisingly so, as immigration has mushroomed.

NumbersUSA explains how the DREAMers' de facto amnesty work papers application directs lawbreakers further to break the law:

An illegal alien who applies for deferred action also applies for a work permit using Form I-765. Question 9 on that form asks the applicant to submit "any Social Security numbers ever used, if any." The question looming in the minds of illegal-alien advocates was whether an applicant must list phony or stolen SSNs and risk prosecution for ID fraud. USCIS has now clarified that applicants must only list officially issued SSNs. Visa overstayers may have officially issued SSNs, but few other illegal aliens would.

Once one has a DACA hall pass and a valid work permit, other documentation doors open: driver's licenses in some states, bonafide Social Security numbers, etc. The administration will issue real Social Security numbers to many of these lawbreakers. Thus, the Obama amnesty is giving a green light to establishing a more legitimate-looking, recent paper trail consisting of bank accounts, credit cards, rental agreements, school records, etc., that will make it all the more difficult to identify and eject illegal aliens — both these beneficiaries once their cone of amnesty protection disappears (if ever) and those to whom these beneficiaries lend their documents so they, too, can exploit this exercise in quasi-official lawlessness.

This version of "don't ask, don't tell" means if, for some reason after the two years' time of their temporary reprieve from removal, the upward of two million DREAMers again become "undocumented" — say Mitt Romney beats Obama in the presidential election and decides not to continue the amnesty program, Congress grows a backbone and exercises those blessed checks and balances on a second Obama administration, or something else happens to undo this administrative amnesty — the fake, stolen, or shared SSNs will remain available to the illegals for further usage and exploitation to defraud employers and others, corrupt the Social Security database and system, and essentially aid and abet lawbreakers in further lawbreaking. So the Obama administration's decision regarding SSNs on DACA applications is dishonest, deceitful, and dangerous. And that's not to mention that the whole program is illegitimate, being done by fiat, lacking legal basis, and rubbing the American people's nose in the cynical will of an unchecked, unbalanced executive branch.
