Mr. Barnett joined the Board of the Center for Immigration Studies in 2024, after serving as a Fellow since 2003. His expertise in immigration and refugee policy stems from his assignment in the U.S.S.R. with the U.S. Information Agency, part of the U.S. Department of State. Based in Tennessee, Mr. Barnett educates state and local officials, as well as the public, on immigration issues, particularly those involving refugees and asylum. He has testified before the Tennessee State Legislature, and his work has informed reports by the New York State Legislature. His articles have been featured in The Wall Street Journal/Europe, National Review, New York Post, The American Conservative, The Federalist, The Washington Times, Christian Science Monitor, Baltimore Sun, The Tennessean, and other publications.
