The amnesty crowd loves to claim that opposition to mass immigration is all based on race, and that anyone who opposes amnesty is necessarily a racist. Yet the more one listens to amnesty advocates, the clearer it becomes that it is the amnesty advocates themselves who use race-talk to advance their agenda.
Take, for example, UCLA Professor Kent Wong, a former staff attorney for the amnesty-advocating Service Employees International Union (SEIU), who has routinely blamed the failure of amnesty legislation on racists:
Let us be very clear, what is behind the anti-immigrant hysteria in Congress today, and especially amongst certain republican leaders in the U.S. Senate: It is racism, pure and simple! If these young immigrant students were from Ireland, or from Italy, or from Germany, we would not have this massive outcry against the DREAM Act. It is because they are from Latin America, they are from Asia, they are students of color that the minority in the Senate is trying to use a procedure to block the will of the majority. The majority of people in this country support the DREAM Act. [transcribed from a video on youtube]
Apparently Mr. Wong believes all illegal aliens are, by definition, "of color" – a view that's uninformed at best, and arguably racist. It seems the professor hasn't heard of the Irish Lobby for Immigration Reform, a pro-amnesty group that brands itself "the voice of the estimated 50,000 undocumented" Irish aliens in the United States. The group is just as radical as La Raza, and there's no evidence Americans find their pleas any more persuasive than any other amnesty group.
Professor Wong was recently caught on youtube once again, and this time he let the world see how obsessed he is with race:
Today, we're carrying on this spirit, we're carrying on this fight! And we will win the DREAM Act, soon, very soon! … And when that day happens, the young leaders of this DREAM Act movement will go on. You will accomplish great things with your lives! You will go on to lead important organizations. You will go on to become lawyers, and teachers, and doctors, and members of the U.S. Senate to replace those old, white men! [Loud applause, laughter]
With advocates like this, is it any wonder why the American public overwhelmingly opposes amnesty?
