The Center's director of policy studies, Jessica Vaughan, and a Center board member, Jan Ting, both testified before the Senate Judiciary Committee's Subcommittee on Immigration and the National Interest. The focus of the hearing was the Central American Minors (CAM) Refugee/Parole Program and the Haitian Family Reunification Program (HFRP) and their impact on American communities.

Jessica Vaughan’s testimony emphasized the dramatic departure from existing law and policy this controversial program represents as well as the resulting high cost to taxpayers, public safety problems, and continued illegal immigration. The hearing took place as a federal appeals court considers whether President Obama’s executive amnesties can move forward prior to a ruling on the challenge to these amnesties brought by 26 states.

Jan Ting’s testimony emphasizes how the new Central American Minors (CAM) Refugee/Parole Program and the Haitian Family Reunification Program (HFRP) usurp Congress’ role to balance the interests of business and labor and to set limits on immigration, allowing the economy to expand while protecting the jobs and wages of Americans.
