Open-Borders Foe Huelskamp Loses Kansas Primary

Rep. Tim Huelskamp (R-Kan.), an opponent of "comprehensive immigration reform," lost his primary yesterday to another Republican.

The congressman's loss presumably had less to do with his immigration stand than his vote against farm subsidies, in one of the nation's most agricultural congressional districts – it includes all of western Kansas.

A Tea Party ally, he had irritated Speaker Boehner to the extent that the Speaker had him kicked off the House Agriculture Committee, and had, in addition, stirred the national Chamber of Commerce to organize against him. (The Chamber rarely is involved in primaries.)

His opponent was a political newcomer and a physician, Roger Marshall, who will surely hold the seat for the Republicans this fall.

Huelskamp is the fourth House member to lose his seat in the primaries; another was Renee Ellmers (R-N.C.) who has an open-borders migration policy, as we reported earlier. The other two losses had no immigration angle: Randy Forbes (R-Va.), was a victim of changing district boundaries and Chaka Fattah (D-Pa.) faced serious corruption charges.
